Questions!

1. What does a STOP mean.

Through the combination of aperture and shutter speed to form an appropriate measurement of exposure, ‘Stops’ are used to manipulate the use of light measurement ratios to form a correct exposure.

 2. What is the range of apertures on your camera (making sure you give only full stop differences)

4, 5.6, 6.3, 8, 11, 16, 22

3. What is the range of shutter speeds on your camera ((making sure you give only full stop differences)

1/15s, 1/30s, 1/60s, 1/125s, 1/250s, 1/500s, 1/1000s, 1/2000s, 1/4000s

4. You have an ISO of 400, a shutter speed of 1/125th and an f-stop of F5.6.a)     I ask you to open up the aperture to let more light in by 2 stops. What would you change your reading to?

F2.8 1/500s

b)     Now, back at your original setting, close down three stops. What is your setting now?

F11 1/15s

 5. What are three ways you can measure exposure?

Metering on a camera, Light measurer, Histogram.

6.  If in a given situation ‘correct’ exposure is achieved by using 125 @ f8 at ISO 100, give the shutter speed and aperture combinations required for "correct exposure for the following ISOa)ISO 200, b)ISO 400, c)ISO 1600, d)ISO 25, e)ISO 3200

a)F5.6 1/250s b)F4 1/500s c)F1.4 1/2000s d)F11 1/60s e)F1 1/4000s

 7.  When you use a high ISO you get image degradation. With film this is called increasing the size of the grain. With digital we don’t refer to grain, we refer to

-it as "Noise."

8.  On your camera, what is the difference between AUTO mode and MANUAL mode?

"Auto" mode makes a decision of correct exposure based on the light reflected from the subject with a light meter, manual mode allows you to have full control on the entire exposure.

9.  All in-camera meters try to render the scene as a mid-tone. So if the mid-toned scene is rendered appropriately, what will happen to the light toned scene (white)?

It will appear under exposed.

And the dark toned scene (black)?

It will appear over exposed

10.  What type of metering do built-in camera meters use?

Reflective light metering

Assignment 2 -Exposure Control

Task 1

White Subject (white-ish)

Mid-tone Subject

Black Subject

Mixed subject (s)

------------------------------------------------------

Task 2

Aperture mode: White toned subject
(white-ish, I think my colour balance was off)

-1 stop exposure

+1 stop exposure

Aperture mode: Black toned subject
(seems to have reflected more light than white tone)

-1 stop exposure

+1 stop exposure

------------------------------------------

Task 3

Mid-tone subject 1/160s
(Realised thats the original exposure was wrong as all other stops follow as if the middle point is 1/125s)

-1 Stop (1/250)

-2 Stops (1/500)

+1 Stop (1/60)

+2 Stops (1/30)

First Photographic Exercise

For this task I hope that I have shown my own interpretation to the photographic subjects the class was  tasked to photograph...

The Letter A.

Reflection.

Something Older Than 50 Years.

Rockstar Jumping (almost).

Moving Water.

White Car Door.

Someone Riding A Bike.

Bright spot In A Dark World.

Chiaroscuro.

Something That Needs Improvement.

Blast From The Past.

Person Wearing A Tie.

Silhouette.
------------------------------------
The Silhouette was my favorite of them all, no addition editing was required and i thought it conveyed what a silhouette is.
The reflection image is a self portrait reflected off the metal pillow in Garema Square.
Couldn't quite get everyone on cue with the rockstar jump, but Krzys's facial expression was too amusing to be left out.
I wasn't overly thrilled with my Bike image, I think my problem was not being as fast to react with my camera when seeing someone pass on a bike, something I hope to really improve with.
The Chiaroscuro was a challenge as I first misunderstood the simplicity of its meaning.
I ended up asking my Mothers boss to pose for my portrait, he refused to smile.

I hope you have enjoyed my interpretation of the challenge!
